To properly diagnose OAB your doctor will need to understand your urinary habits and medical history. A complete physical exam should also be performed to see if you have any underlying medical conditions contributing to your OAB symptoms.

The following is a list of questions that may help you work with your doctor to diagnose your condition and determine a therapy or combination of therapies that is right for you.

  1. Could my diet affect my OAB? Does my weight contribute to my symptoms?
  2. What tests are available to determine the cause of my OAB?
  3. I understand there are different types of conditions associated with OAB, which type do you suspect I have? Are there different treatments available for different conditions?
  4. Is my OAB temporary or will my symptoms be long-term?
  5. Could an illness or disease I have be causing my OAB?
  6. Could any medications I’m taking contribute to my OAB?
  7. I understand there are behavioral therapies and exercises available to help control my OAB. Would I benefit from any of these? How should I perform the exercises?
  8. Are there medications I could take to control my symptoms? What are the benefits and side effects of these medications? Will they interfere with any other medications I am currently taking?
  9. Should surgery be considered to correct my condition? What types of surgery are available? What are the complications associated with these types of surgery?
  10. Could menopause affect my OAB?
