To properly diagnose OAB your doctor
will need to understand your urinary habits and medical
history. A complete physical exam should also be performed
to see if you have any underlying medical conditions contributing
to your OAB symptoms.
The following is a list of questions that may help you work with
your doctor to diagnose your condition
and determine a therapy or combination of therapies that
is right for you.
- Could my diet affect my
OAB? Does my weight contribute to my symptoms?
- What tests are available
to determine the cause of my OAB?
- I understand there are
different types of conditions associated with OAB,
which type do you suspect I have? Are there different
treatments available for different conditions?
- Is my OAB temporary or
will my symptoms be long-term?
- Could an illness or disease
I have be causing my OAB?
- Could any medications I’m
taking contribute to my OAB?
- I understand there are
behavioral therapies and exercises available to help
control my OAB. Would I benefit from any of these?
How should I perform the exercises?
- Are there medications I
could take to control my symptoms? What are the benefits
and side effects of these medications? Will they interfere
with any other medications I am currently taking?
- Should surgery be considered
to correct my condition? What types of surgery are
available? What are the complications associated with
these types of surgery?
- Could menopause affect
my OAB?
